I am Rosie The Roadie and I travel around Australia all year selling goods face to face.
I am similar to a traditional door-to-door salesman, except that instead of going to individual houses I attend markets and fairs in towns.
To supplement my income and to allow me to enjoy my travels and spend plenty of leisure time pursuing my hobbies, I have an internet business as well. I have an e-commerce website which allows people to purchase my products online after examining them at the markets and fairs.
I sell my own brands of product and have websites dedicated to the branding of these products. I have two brands.
My previous life.
In my previous life, I grew up in the country and like many of my peers went away to boarding school when I reached my teens. I hated the discipline and the rigid timetable and was happy to break out when I was 17.
My freedom did not last long, a few weeks later I met the man who would become my husband and life-long partner. Whilst my peers were sitting their high school final exams, I was on my first adventure across our great country.
A couple of years later, we returned to my home town and got married. Our adventure did not stop there, we stayed a couple of years then hit the road again. This time we ended up in the tropics on the other side of Australia where we put down roots, started a family and our first business.
My business life
I have now been a business owner for just over 30 years.
We started a bricks and mortar business from scratch, my husband and I, and eventually had six full-time and one part-time employee.
We had a family and when they were all grown up and left home, we sold our business and our house and began our travel adventure.
This great adventure has been ongoing for nearly ten years, and we plan to continue for at least another 10.
Mindset and Motivation
Being a business owner, I have personal experience and understand the commitment and mindset that is required when you take a risk and attempt to earn an income by starting your own business.
There are many sacrifices that you need to make and many sleepless nights. There are also many joyful moments and feelings of satisfaction when a customer is thrilled with your product or service.
I started this blog as an opportunity to continue my laptop lifestyle. I aim to slowly move away from traditional face-to-face and completely to the online world. It is a big goal, and at my
Earlier this year, for the first time in 10 years we found a few spare weeks, and dollars, and headed overseas for two weeks. This fueled my desire to continue my laptop lifestyle, next time through the USA, Canada, The UK and Europe.
I would like to have the ability to continue with overseas travel, something that has been limited due to financial restrictions and time restraints. I have had my work schedule with respect to attending markets and fairs determined by other people setting the date, and therefore my calendar.
It is my wish to travel to the more expensive destinations and this has been my motivation to sit at my computer and spend every available minute setting up this blog. It will be my driving motivation as I move forward.
Hobbies and Fun
I really do love the internet and find learning new things to be an adventure in itself. I have always spent a considerable amount of time reading and learning new things.
I grab the camera, or phone, far too often. I love those happy snaps. I once took about 500 photographs just trying to snap the moment a bolt of lightning struck. I don’t have any special tools, just me and my camera.
In my spare time, which is not very often, I grab my trusty gold detector and try to find a little of the yellow stuff. Yes, I have found some and if I cashed it in, I might just be able to treat myself to a cup of coffee or two.
I also have a mining claim, which means I can dig for gemstones on a tiny block of dirt in the middle of nowhere. It is hard, hot work but there is a phone signal. This means that when my online business is more productive, I will be able to spend some more time trying to find that elusive gem. There are many places within Australia that you can hunt for gems and I hope to be able to do this as I wind down my offline face to face business.
What of the future
I enjoy writing and sharing my adventures. I aim to help others find their way in the online marketplace.
I have spent the past 10 years enjoying the benefits of the internet.
I have participated in forums and membership websites. I have read blogs, attended webinars and haunted YouTube.
I woke up one morning a couple of years back and decided that instead of always being the receiver of information, I would like to be the provider. I have spent this time gathering information, being taken for a ride or three, spending money on things that did not work, chased plenty of shiny objects and eventually settled down, set my goals and laid the foundations for this blog.
I do have a filing cabinet full of notes that I need to collate to ensure that the information I give makes sense.
I have spent an insane amount of time on social media and tested this to see if I could drive traffic to an affiliate program. My website
I considered that instead of just sharing my tips and findings with a few people on a couple of forums and Facebook groups, It would be a better option to set up an entire blog as a means of sharing my thoughts and tips as well as my successes and failures as I move into the future.
I will share with my readers the tools I found have helped me by reviewing the products and blogging about the features and benefits, and how these tools are required to build an online business. I need to monetize this blog because I do want to travel, and I need to put food on the table.
I hope that you will join me on my journey, follow me on social media and share my posts so that others may benefit from this information.
Here’s to a wonderful adventure
