What can $1 a day buy you?
I remember years ago when I was reading one of many books on investment and making money, there was a saying that if you paid $1 a day extra off your mortgage, you would reduce your overall mortgage by around $25,000.
If you choose to put $1 a day into an investment by the time you retired, you would have about $25,000 stashed away. Of course, if interest rates ended up higher than they are now, these figures would increase drastically. Either way $1 a day can be a great investment.
How can I find a spare $1 a day?
I thought what have I done is the past, and what do I buy today for $1 a day, $7 a week or $30 a month, that is not essential to my wellbeing?
a) A couple of coffees a week.
b) A bottle of cheap soft drink a day.
c) A newspaper a day.
d) A magazine a week.
e) Knickknacks for the house.
f) Another toy for the kids, or pet.
g) Another self-help book.
h) A couple of blocks of chocolate, or bags of sweets a week.
Where would I be now, If I had put that $1 or $2 a day aside?
I guess there are a lot more things we spend our money on, but the point I am trying to make is that I am sure most of us can find $1 a day to save if we could put that towards building a future that will make us happy. I do understand that times can be tough, and I have honestly been so heavily in debt that I thought I would never survive.
Some people are extremely happy with their life, and do not wish to change anything. Others, including me, have thought long and hard about what we can do to improve the quality of our life and build ourselves a dream.
Some people have had good incomes and have had money put aside in investment for their retirement, others have always had low incomes and retirement is not expected to improve their lives.
Online passive income opporunities.
My offline business allows me to travel across Australia full time.
However, as I am required to work 3 days most weeks, and travel between events I do not always get to enjoy the benefits.
My $1 a day has allowed me to build 2 websites to improve this business and move it to an online one in time.
I have lived this laptop lifestyle for nearly 10 years, traveling for work, relaxing in between events, having a month off twice a year and it has been very enjoyable.
However, it only provides income for the present time. If I stopped traveling or doing my sales work, then my income would dry up.
This is what I truly love about being online. There is the potential for a passive income. A passive income is where you have a residual income ongoing as a result of your efforts today.
Once something is written on the web, it is there always (unless you delete your website of course). You can write an article that is found 3, 4, 5 and even 10 years later. Unfortunately, this often leads to errors. When a website is not updated, the information people are seeking can be out of date.
Having said that, if you have a monetized blog or website and someone finds an article you wrote a few years ago, if you have been diligent and ensured that the links are still active and the product available, and the information correct then you can continue to receive new customers over the years.
I think that this is fantastic for those who are willing to continue to ensure that they supply accurate information. Whilst updating a website may require work, it is not a full-time job. Once a website is well established, updating a page is almost as beneficial in the eyes of the search engines as creating a new page. New content is always good.
What led me to find my $1 a day investment?
I began my search over two years ago and spent a lot of time and money chasing shiny objects.
They sounded good and easy for a newbie, but alas this newbie was unable to make them do what I saw in webinars and sales pitches and I quickly discovered they were not what I was looking for.
In the past 18 months, all that changed.
I now happily pay $1 a day for the opportunity to grow this blog and learn all that I really needed to know to begin my journey to a true laptop lifestyle.
My $1 a day gives me access to mentors who are already making money with their online businesses. These people share their ideas and tips to help others build their websites and grow their online business.
As the internet evolves, new rules apply and algorithms change and being part of a mentoring group means I am kept up to date so that I can ensure that my online businesses will continue to grow and improve.
What have I dedicated my $1 a day to?
I am spending my $1 a day building my online business.
Are you prepared to put $1 a day towards building an online business?
Are you prepared to spend time each day learning everything you need to know and applying what you have learned?
You will need to learn, research and take action.
This will be as you begin your journey and thereafter. There are many ways that you can make money online, but if you don’t take the time to learn how to get started and instead continue to chase shiny objects you are likely to remain on the roundabout.
